Aquatic Moss Cascade Necklace- rough emeralds embedded in brass, $427
Sometimes you have to take a step back to see what’s right under your nose. For me it took a trip to Florida to discover NYC jewelry designer Emilie Shapiro. It started with a trip to the Norton Museum in West Palm Beach to see the Georgia O’Keefe exhibit. Of course, I had to check out the museum gift shop where I saw these beautiful, organic shapes in gold and brass with rough hewn stones emerging from them. When I found out that everything was sustainably made I couldn’t resist. All of her jewelry is handmade using the ancient craft of wax casting which dates back to the Egyptians. There are no harsh chemicals in her studio and she uses natural rough gemstones, nickel free and recycled metals and packaging materials. I bought the Barrier Ring for myself. It’s even more gorgeous on.
